Alice Stutts Fields

I am married to David Sergent and co chair of this site. We have had a wonderful time meeting people and discovering our history. I am thankful for each person who helps us with this major undertaking. To remember who we are as a people instead of what they say that we are.

This Joanna’s Great Great Grandmother, this is the information about her as given by her mother, Katie Adams.

“I don’t really know much about her. There aren’t any dates on her headstone. I think she was born in 1882 and died in 1932 0r 33 She married Isaac N Fields and had 6 children. She was born in North Carolina and came into KY via Bluefield WVa. Her family is Swiss. Grandpa was a fireman on the railroad. She is buried at Adams Cem in Burdine Ky behind the school. The story goes that Grandpa Fields wanted a wife and had his eyes on 2 sisters. Alice and Mary. He laid a broom down and Mary stepped over it but Alice picked it up. He thought she would be the better wife and proceeded to court her. When she fell ill, she moved in with my grandmother and told her she had come home to die. I don’t know how. She was a very private person and not much is know about her.”
